Date of Sighting: August 12, 2011
Time of Sighting: 9 to 10 PM MDT
Location of Sighting: Southern Portion of Butte, Montana
Description: One of the witnesses called the day after the sighting. He said that 8 others had also witnessed the sighting. No one had a camera. However, the witness did observe the orbs through binoculars. He said that the orbs were visible in the southern sky “about 15 to 20 air miles” south of Butte. The objects would appear on the left, drift slowly westward and then vanish. The sighting lasted about 10 minutes. The witness was emphatic that the lights were not hot air balloons or Chinese Lanterns.
Note: A check of winds aloft for Spokane, Washington shows that winds were from the southeast up to about 10,000 feet. Spokane is the closest representative upper air station. This indicates that the objects were moving with the wind.
