Time of Sighting: 4:15 AM MDT
Description: I was awakened by something. I don’t remember what, but decided since I was cold, I would shut the window in the den. As I reached for the handle on the window, I looked up at the sky towards my left (facing west), as we have mountains surrounding us and there is more sky to be seen in that direction. (This is normal for me – I always look at the sky.) I saw one star and then looked towards my right. I just stood there with my jaw hanging open and blinking furiously to better focus my eyes. It was not a traditional ‘craft’ sighting at all. It was huge, brilliantly translucent red-orange in a vertical rectangular-ish shape. It was maybe even slightly diamond shaped. And it was pulsating and stationary. It was HUGE! I ran to find my binoculars, but could only grab the biggest and heaviest and couldn’t get it focused before it started to very very slowly move away still pulsating, but it started to fade away to a pale blue gray as it moved further away towards the northwest. This lasted maybe 5 minutes. There was no hard shape to this and no angles. It as just pulsing translucent light. It took me awhile to write this because I couldn’t figure out how to judge it’s size. Then one night the moon was low over our mountains and it was a quarter moon. I figure that the object could have been 1/2 of the quarter moon in size from my perspective. And the height was hard to judge. We’re in a small valley at at 3500 feet above sea level. The mountains are at 5000 feet and the object was no more than 2,000 to 3000 feet above them.
